Central Florida Golf

While I enjoy teaching golf at every level, recreational to competitive, I really enjoy working with aspiring competitive players.  Competitive players are goal driven, dedicated to their sport and play with passion.

It is a privilege to assist these players in developing their games and reaching their goals, not to mention the thrill and excitement of watching these individuals perform under tournament conditions and contending to win!

Opportunities abound within Central Florida and beyond to compete and at every level of play and handicap.  You don’t have to be a super star to enjoy competitive golf.

Junior Golf

Many events are flighted by handicap or scoring averages and players compete against each other at equivalent levels of play, ability, and skill.

But, if you are a “player”, junior, amateur, professional, men, women, or senior, you can mix it up with the very best in the country right here in Central Florida.

If you are principally a recreational player who plays for a small wager, a free lunch or drink, or just bragging rights and aspire to compete in a more formal arena, opportunities to compete are literally at your front door in Orlando.  And who knows what a little competitive golf may lead to in the future?

Womens Golf

For junior competitors there is no better competitive field of juniors, than within Central Florida.

Former local junior golfer Phillip Choi of Circle Christian School, now collegiate player for the University of Florida, led the field of US Open qualifiers at Metro West, May 10, 2010 with a qualifying medalist score of 65.  Past Central Florida junior player Andy Choi finished second with a 67.

These players no doubt have a very serious shot at someday playing on the PGA Tour and it all started with junior golf within Central Florida.

Interesting also is the fact that Florida hosted some 17 first stage qualifying sites for the US Open very indicative of the strong talent of golf that resides in our state.

If you want to chase your dream in competitive golf, stop dreaming about it and start seriously working on your game and make your dream a reality.

Golf Swing

Opportunities for competitive golf abound in our area!  There are plenty of courses and practice areas throughout Central Florida to start developing a competitive game and the seasonal rates and the current economy are making it very affordable for the summer season. There has never been a better time to play golf!

Here are some exciting websites to explore for competition from local to national, as well as player organizations. If you need a coach or an instructor or both, feel free to give me a call and we will work together to help you reach your dreams and enjoy the excitement of competition at the amateur level.  If you are aspiring to play professionally, I will be more than glad to show you the “ropes” or path to the LPGA or PGA Tours.

Obama

President Obama recently made a highly publicized visit to the nearby Kennedy Space Center to explain further his new vision for NASA.  To a standing-room only crowd of invited technology experts, civic officials, employees, and residents, the President outlined his plan, including his belief that jobs will be created long-term in Central Florida.  Florida Senator Bill Nelson endorsed the Plan and in an exclusive interview with this reporter after the President’s speech singled out Celebration and the Four Corners area for comment.

The President’s new space policy would:
•    Cancel the Constellation moon program ($7 billion already spent)
•    Shift manned space exploration to commercial companies
•    Continue the plan to end the Shuttle Program by the end of the year
•    Fund NASA studies for the next steps in manned space exploration, beyond low earth orbit (i.e., the International Space Station).
•    Invest several billion dollars to upgrade the Kennedy Space Center over the next five years or so, to attract commercial launch companies.

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Orlando announced the local winners of the 4th Annual Le Cordon Bleu Schools in North America Culinary Market Basket Competition. Seven enrolled students participated in the event on April 24, and the top three contestants were awarded scholarships to the Orlando culinary school.

Our first place winner, Ryan Nawrath, is from Long Island, N.Y.  Nawrath is set to begin classes on July 6, 2010 and is enrolled in the Culinary Arts program in Orlando. He hopes to pursue a career as a chef and plans to open a comfort food-themed restaurant in the future.  For Nawrath, comfort food brings him back to his childhood family meals, which is the reason he loves food and cooking.

Nawrath competed against six other contestants from the Florida area.  At the scholarship competition held at the college, Nawrath wowed the judges with walnut-crusted salmon in a red wine cranberry reduction, paired with a sweet potato and apple mash and sautéed yellow squash and zucchini using only the components of a “market basket.”

“Every year, I’m more impressed with the skill level each competitor brings to the table,” said William Mather, director of education and lead judge. “The creativity, passion and confidence displayed are a great indication of the potential success each can achieve with the training they’ll receive in our Le Cordon Bleu programs.”

Our second place winner, Stephen Kaplan, from Pembroke Pines, Fla. is attending the culinary school beginning July 6, 2010 in the Culinary Arts program.  Kaplan hopes to pursue his dream of becoming a Certified Master Chef.  He prepared baked salmon in a hollandaise sauce paired with a red pepper and onion stir-fry style cous-cous and seasoned green beans.

The Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Market Basket Scholarship Competition takes place twice yearly and requires contestants to complete two phases. First, enrolled students submit an online entry form, which includes an essay demonstrating their interest, desire and passion for becoming a culinary professional; a team of judges select the finalists and invite them to compete in the kitchen challenge.  Then, on the day of the scholarship competition, 10 enrolled students are given a market basket containing key ingredients.  They have 90 minutes to prepare and present two identical plated dishes (one for presentation and one for judging).
